What is Swagbucks?

Swagbucks, is a loyalty rewards program which has been in the market for the past decade and is operated by Prodege LLC based in California.

In essence, it rewards members with gift cards and cash back through points earned when using it to perform for everyday activities.

Everyday activities such as, shopping at your favourite online stores, searching the web, watch entertaining videos and play online games.

These are things most of us do daily anyway, but you can also earn points for answering surveys and using it to discover new offers provided by their partners such as online backup services or car insurance.

Once points have been accumulated you can redeem them for gift cards to use at your favorite retailers such as Amazon, Next and Argos, or get you can choose to receive cash back on a prepaid Visa or MasterCard or through your PayPal account.

So there are a number of ways you can earn points and eventually money in Swagbucks.

To become a member you will need to sign up to a free account. Once you are a member you can participate how you wish to start earning Swagbucks or SB for short.

How to earn Swagbucks

1. Shop online using Swagbucks

Most of us will use the internet to shop online at some time or another. We usually go straight to the website of a preferred store through our web browser, or shop in places like Amazon or EBay.

Swagbucks offer cash back shopping at over 1500 stores as well as access to exclusive offers and coupons.

Each time you purchase you will earn SB points simply for doing your purchasing through Swagbucks! That is pretty cool!

Swagbucks Review

Each store has its own offers and terms & conditions for purchases, but one which I noticed to be the same through the offerings is the 32-day wait before your payout, this is to ensure there are no returns on the purchases before rewarding you point.

While doing some shopping I did notice that Swagbucks is only available in certain countries and that the stores differ depending on your location. I am in UK so will purchase from the local stores such as Next, M&S or Argos, whereas if you live in USA you will have available stores such as Walmart, Macys and Target.

Each store offers its own SB. When choosing to purchase you can expand a window to view their T&C’s as well as exactly what is on offer.

Another way to save while shopping is by clipping coupons. You can clip, save and print the coupon to redeem at the grocery store directly.

Earn 25 SB per coupon redeemed plus 1 SB for each coupon you print up to a maximum 50 coupons.

You can choose your favourite stores for future reference.

2. Watch Videos

Some people will just love to earn money to watch videos all day however Swagbucks video is not the best way to earn money.

There are different categories to chose from such as travel, food, cookery and entertainment. When you select a category you will find a playlist with the amount of SB points for each list.

Swagbucks Review

Each playlists consists of approximately 22 videos, which all together can last anywhere between 10 minutes to over 90 minutes. But no matter how long you spend watching will only earn 1-3 SB to watch the entire list.

That’s a lot of viewing time for such a small amount of Swagbucks.

3. Answer surveys

A popular and relatively easy way to earn SB is to complete surveys.

You will initially be required to answer some personal information which is kept by Swagbucks to streamline the most relevant survey to you in the future. The demographical information, such as your name, address, age and employment status etc will not be used by anyone else. You will also be given the option to opt out answering sensitive questions such as ethnicity, or religion.

Swagbucks Review

You will receive surveys daily from which to choose, ranging from between 5 minutes and 30 minutes each. The number of Swagbucks you will be awarded for compiling each survey will be displayed and of course the more time it takes to complete the higher the number of SB.

You may find when starting a survey you are disqualified, this will result in a lost of SB and can be annoying if you are near the end of the survey and almost completed, especially if its a longer on which took 20 minutes. But this seems to happen with many survey sites.

4. Discover Offers

One of the easiest ways to earn Swagbucks is in this section called “Discover”.  This is where you can discover offers provided by SB partners. Although signing up for an offer is easy and will earn you points straight away many offers require you to pay after the initial trial or free period.

Swagbucks Review

This is fine it is something you wanted anyway, but if you do this just to earn the points then you need to remember to cancel the subscription before it is debited to your account. It could become confusing and you could end up paying out more than you earn!

5. Search the Web

There is a search feature within the Swagbucks platform which you can use for your web searches which will reward you points each time you search on the web. This is by far the most simplest way to earn as you really are just using Swagbuck to do something you do anyway.

There is an option to change your internet browser to Swagbucks chrome extension which will then become your default browser. This is powered by Yahoo.

6. Play Games

If you enjoy playing games then this option may suit you. By using their games you will be earning SB when you use the in-app purchases. They offer a variety of games with the more popular ones being solitaire, angry birds, bingo and slots.

Swagbucks Review

When selecting a game it often asks you to allow ads and to remove any POP-UP disabling software you may have installed on your PC.

7. Gift Cards & Rewards

Once you have accumulated points use them to buy gift cards at your favourite stores. With anything from department stores such as Debenhams, and John Lewis to electronic stores like PC World or Amazon. They also have number of promotions which are offered without time limits, so these can be banked and used once you have enough SB to make the gift card purchase.

Swagbucks Review

You can also buy prepaid Visa, MasterCard or make a deposit into your PayPal account. This is a great way save a little cash for upcoming birthday gifts or to spoil yourself and your loved ones.

There is an option to donate to your favourite charity using your SB through the “Do Good” rewards. Provide a little help for charities such as Save the Children Fund or UNICEF for a little as 5SB at a time.

What I liked about Swagbucks

It is free to join

Using it to do everyday activities like web searches can earn you a little each month

There is a great variety of gift cards to choose from

Mobile Apps available for download on either Android or Apple.

What I don’t Like about Swagbucks

It is limited to a few countries

The surveys sometimes bomb out which is annoying if you have spent a while completing one.

The support is poor of you encounter a technical problem.

As I use my laptop for my business I chose not to install the Swagbutton as it may interfere with my data.

So is Swagbucks a scam?

This is not a scam as it does’nt promise to make you rich when you invest money to purchase a course or belong to a club which promise to have you driving a Lamborghini in a month!

However, it does suggest you can earn money by using it and participating in the activities. In my opinion this is questionable.

Swagbucks will allow you to earn a little extra or to save a little if you choose to incorporate it into your daily to do the things you normally do like, use their search browser or buy gift cards, clip vouchers and if you watch videos or play a lot of games then go through Swagbucks to do so.

Spending your time doing surveys and watching videos to earn the points then I believe you will be spending most of your day doing so.

So I do not recommend this to be a suitable way to make money online.

If you are looking to make serious money online, something which will allow you to quit your job and one day be your own boss then I suggest you build a website and earn money through affiliate marketing.

I earn money through this website by providing information to others who search the internet for answers.

I also had a boss and office to travel to every day but wanted to make a change in my life. Although initially I didn’t know how to build a website I joined a great community who taught me how to go about building a website, choosing a niche and making money online.

Don’t get me wrong this is not going to make you rich quickly this is a legitimate business and is not for everyone. Unless you are serious about making a living working from home, then don’t bother going any further as this is a sustainable profitable business for those willing to put in the hard work and dedication.

If you do choose to join it is FREE and I will be there to personally assist you and coach you while you build your business.

  • I must say one of the reasons I love swagbucks is the fact that Even if all you do is use their search bar and do your online shopping through them, you will slowly and surely build up your rewards points, without really putting yourself out and this has helped me become more efficient in using this online loyalty and reward program. I will surely recommend this to anyone one looking to earn cash online though it’s not a get rich quick scheme.

    • Thanks for visiting my review!

Yes, it’s not a way to earn a living but you can definitely build up a little bit extra for those special treats.

  • Very interesting review you have up here concerning swagbucks. I did used swagbucks some years back but I’m not sure I want to engage in it again though I had a lot of positive things to say about them however, I’m not sure the amount of time used on the platform is way too much than the pay gotten through it. Though I majored on only surveys and playing games then and it took a lot of time from me. Very legit way to make money but the pay is small for me however.

    • Thanks for your comment.

I agree the of time you need to spend on Swagbucks to earn such a small amount of is too much.

But it’s good for the odd gift card here and there!

  • Great post and information about Swagbucks. I have been using Swagbucks for over a year. At first, I spent a lot of time watching adverts and doing surveys, the revenue I got in return for the time I spent on Swagbucks was very poor.

  • Hi Swagbucks,

There are so many websites to make money but all websites are not trusted websites. Swagbucks is the most trusted websites in my life. This website is fantastic to me, they do everything as they say. I am very grateful to this web site. Anyone can earn money in many ways such as watching the video, answering surveys, play games, etc. I would like to recommend everyone to work on this website & earn money.

    • Thanks Harber!

It certainly does do everything it says it does which is refreshing as there are so many scams out there.

I was really promoting ways to make money online, where you could leave a place of employment and earn a living working anywhere in the world.  In this instance   I don’t believe Swagbucks is the answer.
